NPPA sets retail price for 15 key formulations, including diabetes drugs

The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) set retail prices for 15 key drug formulations for diseases including diabetes after holding a meeting in March. Companies producing these drugs will now have to follow the new prices.

“The NPPA has set retail prices for 15 formulations under the Medicines (Price Control) Order 2013 based on the decision of the 96th meeting of the Authority dated 24 March,” the regulator said in its order.

The price of metformin (extended release) + teneligliptin tablet, manufactured and marketed by Associated Biotech, Dales Laboratories, has been set at Rs 7.14 per tablet. Similarly, the retail price of Dapagliflozin + Metformin Hydrochloride extended release tablet has been set at Rs 10.7 per tablet.

These two tablets are used to treat diabetes.

The NPPA has also set the retail price of human normal immunoglobulin for intravenous use, intended for the treatment of certain diseases caused by lack of antibodies in the blood, at Rs 177.85 for a 10ml vial.

Also, the retail price of a single sustained-release tablet of medroxyprogesterone acetate, a hormone that helps regulate ovulation, has been set at Rs 14.04. The NPPA said manufacturers must issue a price list to the regulator through the Integrated Drug Database Management System (IPDMS) and submit a copy to the comptroller and drug dealers in the country. ‘State.

Under the Medicines (Price Control) Order 2013, every retailer and reseller must display a price list as supplied by the manufacturer, when carrying on business, in such a way as to be readily available to anyone wishing consult her, he added. The NPPA has the mandate to set/revise the prices of controlled bulk drugs and formulations and to enforce the prices and availability of drugs in the country. It also monitors the prices of deregulated drugs in order to keep them at reasonable levels.

The regulatory body implements and enforces the provisions of the Medicines (Price Control) Ordinance. It is also responsible for recovering from consumers amounts overcharged by manufacturers for controlled drugs.
